Excessive News Can Stress Immune System

At a time in history, when our economic uncertainty and financial chaos are the focus of hourly news headlines, Americans’, through our advanced technologies, find a way to stay up to the minute with commentaries of doom and gloom. Has anyone bothered to consider what this continuous stress does to our health not to mention our relationships?

If you could monitor the physiological effect that continuous stress has on your health you might consider temporarily unplugging. Chronic stress disrupts nearly every system in your body. It can raise blood pressure, suppress the immune system and speed up the aging process. It can even cause a heart attack or stroke.

Imagine your body is equipped with a color-coded terror alert. What color would you register today? If you are currently at red, Picture yourself turning off the news, taking half a day off work, and find an enjoyable way to relax perhaps in the mountains or at the beach. Within one day your personal terror alert would probably drop to orange or even blue. Think how the change would positively affect your body and enhance your life.

Within minutes of unplugging from technology and the news you may begin to experience some changes. The overall stiffness of your body could begin to let go. You may find yourself focusing on your breathing and the extra oxygen can bring additional blood flow and cellular nutrients to all parts of your body. As you exhale you release excess stress as well as unwanted toxins. Since your body no longer needs to remain in a fight or flight relationship, it can relax and unwind.

Having some time to reflect, you may discover that the current emotional conflict with friends or family is really due to the added stress and actually is kind of silly. You may want to pick up a card or do something nice to show you really care. By this time you may find yourself beginning to smile as you feel that thousands of pounds of invisible stress is being lifted from your body. The day is already getting better and as your thoughts begin to lighten, you realize your terror alert is no longer active.

Stress is invisible and it can add up quickly. It is easy to get caught up in the ongoing financial crisis. If you actually take the time to think about it, America is over two hundred years old and compared to the rest of the world she is a baby. This baby may need to be burped but it’ is nothing to get sick over. It kind of reminds me of the time I was 16 years old and hit a concrete post while driving thru a shopping center. I was so upset I got out of my car slammed the door so hard I broke the window. Come to find out the car received no damage from the concrete post. I still had to pay for the window. Remember to lighten up. As the great mongol warrior, Genghis Khan, said “This too shall pass”.
