i am a type one diabetic and I’ve had t for about 5 years (i was diagnosed when i was 9). i was just wondering when there’s gonna be a breakthrough. i watch the news a lot and i always volunteer for studies at sick kids but i never hear about it getting better, as far as i know the only big thing is the pump.
P.S. i heard about the insulin inhaler but apparently its not going to be released any time soon due to long term lung effects

the insulin inhaler is for type 2 diabetics but yes there are studies to insert animal pancreases but nothing that will be released soon
I haven’t heard anything in a while either. And yeah, the insulin inhaler wasn’t successful. The good news is that there are tons of tweens out there donating tons of money to diabetic research because of Nick Jonas haha.
You need to plan on having diabetes your entire life. I was diagnosed 24 years ago and a cure was promised to be “right around the corner” even then. Needless to say, no cure in sight yet, and I don’t think I’ll see it in my lifetime. Not trying to be pessimistic, but we need to learn to live with our disease. And as you say, there are wonderful new tools out there like the pump and continuous glucose monitors that mimic the actions of a normal pancreas as closely as possible. I love my pump, it might work well for you, too!
Hi,
A great website for all D-related information is http://www.childrenwithdiabetes.com. If you’re not familiar with it, the forums offer a lot of guidance, encouragement and advice.
My 7 year old was just diagnosed with type 1 about 6 weeks ago, and we live outside of the U.S., but I’ve found that website to be very helpful. Many of the people on the forum boards seem more educated than some endos.
